SUMMARY OF DOCUMENT OF 2007
Some cognitive elements fundamental
- In 1973 at the former IUSA (State University Institute of Architecture) of Reggio Calabria Mediterranean University today, is established and activated at the Faculty of Architecture degree course in "Urban Planning", later known as "Urban and Regional Planning," and now "Planning, Urban Planning and Environmental (PTU & A).
- This degree course in "Urban" was already introduced and implemented in 1971 at the Faculty of Architecture IUAV (Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia), today IUAV University of Venice.
- In Italy and abroad to present two training courses in Venice and Reggio Calabria in the field of Town Planning are won in the meantime the fame of "centers of excellence." However, this remains "unique" in the national university system, and will not be activated at other universities Italian, on grounds of non-contextual guarantee of a future career of graduates through the creation of a special order, or a special list at other professional associations. For this reason it was not activated a special examination of State for the exercise of the profession of urban planner, the preserve of engineers and architects.
Today the issue was finally resolved by a five-year period and the future career of our graduates is no longer a problem, and therefore, there is a market, it is no longer an obstacle to the development of this interesting hypothesis and necessary training.
- In 1994, the Politecnico di Milano will activate, at the Faculty of Architecture, Degree in PTU & A.
- Three years later, in 1997, the University of Palermo Politecnico di Milano the following activities at the Faculty of Architecture, Degree in PTU & A.
- In 2001 recognized the right of graduates PUT & A to support the State Examination for certification to the profession of "Planning", and in all of Italy's Order of Architects welcome our graduates, by changing the its name in "Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and the Conservatives."
- Following this goal, long sought, coincided with the launch of training model of the so-called "3 +2", at many Italian universities and from various faculties (no longer the only architecture, but also Agriculture, Economics, Law, Engineering, alone or in combination) are activated in many degree courses PTU & A (22 three-year Class 7 in 17 universities and 12 specialized in class 54 / S in 10 universities).

The Council of the Degree Course in PTU & A of Reggio Calabria, in the plenary meeting held on 01.23.2007 and also extended to teachers who came from other universities, faculty, graduate courses or contract will also teach years, in addition to the representations of students, took note of the decisions of Venice and the positive experience in the past eight years by the new faculty, voted unanimously to propose to the Academic Senate to establish at the University of Reggio Calabria " Urban and Regional Planning. It is also important to note that a National Conference, held February 16 2007 in Reggio Calabria, with the involvement of dozens of universities, which are relevant from the standpoint of research and teaching in the field of urban and regional planning in the light of a:
- positive balance of more than three decades in education in Reggio Calabria generations of planners and planning and the environment, and
- as positive budget of the eight years of the School of Planning of the Territory "Venetian

* Article 74. Establishment of new faculties and courses of study
